Mark Garza is currently a regulatory biologist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District. Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Mark moved to the island in late 2009 after having worked as a fisheries biologist for Texas Parks and Wildlife in Lake Jackson, Texas and for the U.S. Forest Service in Northern California. After a brief, one-year stint in New Mexico, Mark and his wife, Rheanna, returned to the island in 2014. Mark enjoys his time away from work by spending time with his Galveston family, volunteering, and amateur birding. Mark and his wife have been known to not leave the island for months at a time.
